An Element of ‘Glamour Couture’ for Chiara in Moscow

crChiara’s image for Moscow is being taken care of by a team of professionals with whom she has worked over the past months…and years.

Chiara will be representing Malta in Moscow with the ballad, ‘What if we’. The ballad-Queen will be competing with herself as she is determined to improve her previous two results at the same contest – second in 2005 and third in 1998.

Leading Maltese fashion designers, Charles and Ron from C&R will be taking care of her outfits. Chiara’s team also includes award winning fashion make up artist, Diane Nikolic, OPI nail technician Angele Stafrace and hairstylists Alexander’s (Gzira) and Warren Tabone.

Charles & Ron designs are for women who not only love fashion, but also have a passion for life; confident women who like to be noticed’. The C&R collections are inspired by ‘Silver Screen Hollywood Glamour’ and have a distinct Mediterranean influence.

‘Our trademark is that any design has a couture edge to it, because there must always be an element of glamour’, say Charles & Ron, who have established themselves as Malta’s leading fashion house, specializing in evening and wedding couture.

Over the past few years they participated in many fashion events in Naples, Milan, Rome, Ragusa, Amsterdam, Greece and Toronto.

Their bi-annual fashion show is Malta’s most anticipated fashion event, and for their work in Malta and abroad, they have received three awards at the Malta National Fashion Awards.

Award winning fashion make up artist, Diane Nikolic, is eager for all women to look their best. She has recently launched her very own beauty clinic, Glow.

‘I’ve studied make-up here in Malta and in Manchester, however it’s got to be in you. Nowadays make-up is more about creating a shape than just adding colour, it’s about shading. The industry is giving us some really good make-up. The more natural colours create natural shadows, so it’s easy to create a shape’, tells Diane.

Nail technician, Angele Stafrace was the key nail technician in the make-up department of the 2002 film, The Count of Monte Cristo directed by Kevin Reynolds.

Human Landscape Dance examines the relationship of body with environment. Dance does not take place in a vacuum. The context within which we perform says as much as the movements. By plying the counter tension between person and space, this group reveals humanity’s interdependence with our world.
Human Landscape Dance has distinguished itself by juxtaposing urban and natural iconography. The group’s work tests the boundaries with which we surround ourselves. In “Leaving Home,” 2007, they stage a metaphoric birth in a city park. The dance asks, which natural processes do we yet allow ourselves—or are we forced—to experience? Is there anything beyond sex, giving birth, and death from which we are blocking ourselves?
These dances do not advocate a return to the wild. Rather, they argue that we are still part of nature, despite arbitrary distinctions imposed by language and air conditioning. “Salmon Run,” 2004, points out how even our contrivances mimic nature. The dancers travel up the tiers of a fountain against the downward current of the stream. We are yet as immersed in nature as fish in water.
Human Landscape Dance uncovers layers of meaning between person and place. Their dances demonstrate the influence environment applies to statement. The group treats the interconnectedness of man and nature through modern dance in public spaces.”

About Blessed Heritage / Tamra

Tamra means shining drums. Tamra’s origins date back to 1994 when former Youssou Ndour drummer Magatte Dieng & father of Babacarr Dieng where working together. During this time the band consisted of sabar drums led by Magatte.

Magatte then added kit drums to the arrangements which added a rich mix between European and Senegalese rhythms. He toured France with Tamra ensemble with great success. Now Babacarr, in collaboration with Silvan Ndiaye, has taken up the reigns of his father’s traditions along with band members Ali Seck, Karim Mbaye and guest artists.
Babacarr is keen to share the process of making music with a pan-African vibe with the roots stretching across his motherland. The ensemble consists of Sabar, Tabala, used in religious ceremonies.

Djembe’s and the Tama (talking drum), with the addition of the Kora and Xalam stringed and harp like instruments create a fusion of sound that is unforgettable.

Add to this… singing, dance and drama and wonderful vibrant costumes.
Tamra …..share, experiment & love……………..

Michael Arkk, Singer, Songwriter, Producer and Poet, delivers a powerfully charged show every time he performs. His songs, his poetry are of unusual depth. He started singing from his early teens in his native country Jamaica and has travelled around the world delivering his unique blend of music and poetry.
Brought up in Jamaica in the church where his Dad was a minister Arkk was influenced by gospel singers mostly from America such as Mahalia Jackson, The Five Blind Boys from Alabama, Jim Reeves, Sam Cook, Elvis Presley, Shirley Cesar, and many others. Reggae music was not very welcomed in the family home, but Arkk has always loved roots reggae. As a musician he has drawn from a wide range of artists in the creation of his music.
The move finally came in 1987 and a whole new path began. Arkk was the first of his brothers to arrive in England.
His performances had rave reviews and after a while, through Arkk’s influence his brothers were invited to join him.
Before long, they were touring England, France, and Germany and many other places, sharing stages with many internationally recognised choirs, soloists and musicians from all over the world. Arkk’s solo career began in when the band Mystic Circle, later known as Channel Of Praise, ended. He began working on his latest album which is a classic work of art, an embodiment of his feelings, ideas and his emotions.
After the release of his album ‘Easier Said’ (2006) he returns to the stage at Red Gate Gallery. An evening that should not be missed!

Lady Soveriegn: NEW ALBUM 'JIGSAW'

LADY SOVEREIGN puts all the pieces together with new album, Jigsaw, released April 13th on Midget Records (via EMI).

Jigsaw is the follow-up to Sov’s successful debut album ‘Public Warning’ released in late 2006. Over the course of that release Sov won the respect of Jay-Z and America’s urban doyenne, her album sold over 300,000 copies worldwide, lead single ‘Love Me Or Hate Me’ is the only ever #1 on MTV America’s video countdown chart by a British artist, it clocked up over 750,000 sales/downloads in the US. She headlined Times Square on News Years Eve 2007 and then played to over a million people as support on the Gwen Stefani tour. On paper it looked like the perfect ascent to success but ultimately she wasn’t happy, it wasn’t fun any more. Sov realized that the things that really mattered to her, namely her control was slipping away from her and after a period of reflection she decided to walk away from it all and take an independent route.

Following a self imposed break and a false start in New York with some big name producers that didn’t work out, Sov turned to her true partner in crime, her original producer, Medasyn. The London based music maker who had always been on Sov’s musical wavelength ended up producing the whole album. The result, Jigsaw, sees Sov’s music palette expanding to include flavors of Britrock, electro, dance-floor friendly hip hop and even her own singing voice, all contributing to a pop-friendly yet genre-defying LP. The album features ten tracks recorded in London, including the forthcoming single ‘So Human’ and title track ‘Jigsaw’ that sees Sov singing for the first time!

The album will be released on Sovereign’s own label Midget Records – a global partnership with EMI – on April 13th. ‘So Human’ is available to buy now.

Live dates will be announced shortly.
