Oscar winner musician A. R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Middlesex University of United Kingdom (UK), focusing on blending Asian and Western music styles.
With this MOU between A.R. Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory in Chennai (India) and Middlesex University, both the organizations agreed to explore the possibilities for collaboration in music and education and it aims at educational collaboration between India and UK. Both the institutions are reportedly looking at offering a collaborative three year music program. Rahman has also been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by this University. Continue reading
A London Metropolitan University student has scooped first prize in the British Glove Association’s Glove Design Competition. Eva Pospisilova is studying the accredited Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles at City and Islington College.
The London Met student won her prize in the ‘Design a glove for a pop star, past or present’ competition. Eva designed her glove for Madonna and incorporated a diamond motif on a printed fabric sleeve. Her prize will be GBP 300, three days’ work experience at the Textile Conservation Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and an invitation to an awards ceremony at The Drapers Hall. A London Met alumnus visiting professor has become the first ever Muslim to join the cabinet. Tooting MP Sadiq Khan was appointed Minister for Transport in the recent government reshuffle. The promotion makes him the most senior Muslim politician in the country and the first Muslim to join the Privy Council or attend Cabinet.
Mr Khan, whose father was a bus driver in Wandsworth said he wanted to be an inspiration to all people from humble backgrounds: ‘This is the land of hope and glory. This is a country where the sky is the limit.’ Continue reading
Kingswood Educational Activity Centres, one of the UK’s leading education activity providers, has received planning approval from Ashford Borough Council to develop Ashford’s Grosvenor Hall into a “top educational activity centre in Europe”, creating at least 150 jobs.
Locate in Kent, the investment promotion agency for Kent and Medway and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), assisted Kingswood with the planning of the move and provided contacts and information on services. Continue reading
