More International Students in 2013

 There is a great news for student visa holders and for future students in Australia. The Department of Immigration will introduce new post-study work arrangements in early 2013. These new arrangements are likely to operate as a new Post-Study Work stream of the existing Temporary Skilled Graduate (subclass 485) visa. If approved by the Governor- General the subclass 485 visa will be renamed the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa. By implementing these changes the Australian government is aiming to attract a higher number of foreign students to Australia.

This new post-study work visa may be granted to graduates of an eligible Australian Bachelor degree, Masters by coursework degree, Masters (extended) degree, Masters by research degree or Doctoral degree, provided they meet all the other eligibility requirements for this visa. These new arrangements will help international students to remain in Australia and look for further career opportunities after they finish their course of study.

Another important point to consider if you want a to study in Australia is that from March 2012, the student work visa conditions are measured as 40 hours per fortnight while the course is in session; however, students are able to work unrestricted hours during any scheduled course breaks. The knight review has stated that “from September 2013 the forecasts show a small but steady increase in net student numbers, as more students arrive and proportionally less students leave”.

As a result of this, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is changing its projections on the number of international students to come to Australia to study.

This move is being applauded by a lot of immigration experts considering that this is a huge step towards making Australia a world top destination for students who want to achieve a great quality education.

This year, the projection of DIAC on the number of international students that will come to study in Australia for the period of 2014-2015 will be about 22,000.
