CeBIT 2010: Officially kicked off by German chancellor & Spanish PM

Today, CeBIT, the world’s largest ICT expo, was kicked off in Hannover, Germany. It was inaugurated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel together with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

CeBIT, the world’s largest IT & Computer trade fair, hosted by Deutsche Messe AG, since 1986, commenced, today. The world-class event was officially inaugurated by current German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. This year’s CeBIT programmatic theme is ”Connected Worlds” which focuses on ‘smart’ technologies and innovative software products that render several advanced facilities to the common people and introducing the energy saving communication devices to the world. In this CeBIT 2010 ( http://www.dotcominfoway.com/cebit-2010 ), some of the gigantic first time participants include the Google Inc. and the largest online retailer Amazon.com, along with regular participants like IBM, Nokia, Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, Microsoft, SAP, Vodafone, AMD and other global IT leaders.

Among them, Dot Com Infoway(DCI), a top custom software and mobile developer from India, is participating in CeBIT, for the first time. As expected by DCI’s representatives, today DCI’s stall J23/1 of Hall 6 had lot visitors from various countries. Totally, 4157 exhibitors from more than 68 countries are participating in this year’s expo, exhibiting software, hardware products and network solutions ranging from thumb drives to tablet PCs and Tax calculating software to Enterprise management solutions. Surprisingly, comparing last year’s participants, this years participants figures got lowered by 3 %.

In the opening ceremony, Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, started the 6 day event with much promising words. She opined that the German government will make every effort to support the trade show despite the international financial crisis and German government is aiming to render high speed internet access at the speed of 50 MBs/sec by 2015 to 75% of German families.

Commenting about the mobile and communication industry, she stated that the radio spectrum owners have to free up unlimited frequencies, in order to reallocate the frequencies for development of data connections with new technologies. She expressed that “In rural areas, there is still much to be done,” she said. “I’m not talking about watching movies on mobiles, but simple things like making phone calls.”

And Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Prime Minister of Spain, who is this year’s ”partner country” for CeBIT. In his inaugural speech, Zapatero called for a “single digital market” which would cover the entire European Union (EU) that would avoid the fall back behind the advanced technologies of United States. He said “Europe needs to make progress now in order not to lag behind the United States,” And also added that his country has invested over 11 billion U.S. dollars in IT and communication industry, gaining 11 percent annual growth in the sector, during the period. This 6 day event is scheduled to be closed on Saturday (March 6).
