Vauxhall achieve high sales figures for 2009

14 per cent of all new models sold in the country in 2009 were Vauxhall models, with the Corsa, supermini, Astra hatch and Insignia D-sector model all placed in the top ten for annual car sales in 2009.

A major contributor to retail sales was been the  new Astra, said Rory Harvey, Vauxhalls Retail Sales Director.”In December 2008 the old model was running sixth in its segment, but a year on the Mk 6 has helped us achieve third place with retail sales boosted by 299 per cent.

“We’ve also seen Corsa, retail sales rise by 37 per cent, with 2,857 units registered.

“With new Astra coming on stream after its launch last month, followed by the new Movano joining the commercial vehicle line-up and the new Meriva, in June, we hope to deliver plenty more great retail sales stories.”

And Vauxhall posted strong sales courtesy of the government’s scrappage scheme, which ran from May 2009 through to the end of the year. Vauxhall sold 19,170 cars such as the Agila Meriva, Corsa, Astra and Insignia as well as 2,242 commercial vehicle sales such as the Combo Van, Corsavan, Astravan, Movano Van and Vivaro Van.

To cap off a good year, Vauxhall again clinched the mantle of Scotland’s best-selling car manufacturer in 2009, with the Corsa winning out.
