Ossur, a global leader in non-invasive orthopaedics, announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Stand TALL charity organization which provides high end prosthetic devices and rehabilitation to the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Stand TALL has chosen Ossur to be the preferred supplier of lower limb prosthetic components such as Iceross® silicone liners, Total Knee® knees and Flex-Foot® prosthetic feet. In addition, Ossur will assist with the professional training of local rehabilitation staff in the Sichuan-Hong Kong Rehabilitation Center in Chengdu, China.
Stand TALL was founded one year ago by the Chinese Speaking Orthopaedic Society and is funded by the Hong Kong government as well as private donations. The organization consists of 200 medical volunteers – half of them doctors, the other half made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and prosthetists. Stand TALL focuses on child amputees, patients with more than one limb amputated and upper limb amputees, and has so far provided over 120 prostheses to Sichuan earthquake victims. Stand TALL is committed to providing long-term care to children who are active and growing and therefore need to rely on advanced prosthetic devices to realize their full potential. The decision by Stand TALL to enlist Ossur as the preferred supplier of lower limb prosthetic components solidifies Ossur as a global leader in prosthetic technology.
“We welcome the opportunity to provide Ossur’s products and expertise to the Stand TALL team in cooperation with our distribution partner in China, REHA International, and are proud to be a part of this humanitarian effort.” said Arni Arason, president of Ossur Asia. “Together, we will be able to provide superior clinical outcome to many of the inspirational earthquake survivors in the Sichuan area,” he added.
Dr. SW Law, medical consultant of Stand TALL commented, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to offer leading prosthetic devices to those who might otherwise not be so fortunate. Teaming up with Ossur supports our mission of providing state-of-the-art prosthetic technology with specific focus on children and individuals with bilateral amputation.
